A text says your voter registration is missing. Check elsewhere.

The takeaway

An election warning is a reason to check the official site, not rush through a message link.

The FBI’s October 15, 2026 warning describes fake voter-registration messages that lead to pages built to steal personal information. It updates a warning from 2024; the trick is not new.

Leave the message link alone. Type vote.gov into your browser and choose “Check your registration status” and select your state or territory to reach the appropriate official resource. Check any real issue there.

A campaign “investment pool” promising a payout after a candidate wins is another warning sign. Campaign donations are not investments.

Share the official checking route with someone who receives the same message. Small habits help protect our community.
